Data Mapping

Gladstone DataMap™

When a transformation is needed old data elements in the old file definitions need to be moved to new data elements in the new file definition. The business rules for the correct transformation need to be documented. Gladstone DataMap™ is the premier tool used for creating the business rules (mapping). The tool can be done anywhere independent of the conversion process and is used to generate the actual conversion programs.

25 Reports

Gladstone creates 25 different reports to assist in the mapping process.

Full Detail Report

The “Full Detail” report is used for two reasons. One, to view the entire mapping for the data transformation. This includes expanded specs, rules, tables, write criteria, etc. And two, to obtain “sign off” for the data transformation to take place. It’s an “auditing” function allowing the appropriate people to sign off on the mapping specifications.

Used/Unused Report

The “Used/Unused” report informs users which elements have been used and where. It is brings attention to the elements in the source data that are not being transferred to the new system.

The “Clone” feature allows users to duplicate a previous data transformation as a starting point and then make modifications to the current transformation. This saves users a tremendous amount of time.

Re-apply Specifications (File Definition Changes)

There are numerous times in a transformation process where the “Target” definition changes. It would be best if it happened prior to the mapping process, although quite often it occurs after the process has started. Rather than having to completely re-map, the Gladstone software allows the “Target” file definition to change and all of the mapping that had been completed to be applied to the new “Target” file definition.
